Tips on Selecting your horse

Say Neigh If You Don't Want It: Tips on Selecting a Horse

There is no doubt that a horse is a very beautiful animal and they are also smart as well. Apart from the dog a horse is said to make a pretty good companion. When it comes to purchasing your horse you will need to pay attention to a number of different things. It's merely impossible to regret purchasing the horse you have purchased but you will still need to pay attention.

First off, why are you looking to purchase a horse? You should consider why you are buying the horse because there are many different breeds of horses and those different breeds can be used for different things. Will you be having the horse as an animal on your ranch? Will the horse be used for recreational reasons? Will you be competing with the horse? Do you plan on using the horse for breeding? You see, there are all kinds of questions to ask yourself.

Next you should think about who is going to be using your horse. If you are thinking about purchasing a horse for the whole family then you need to think about the size, riding level and weight of all the riders. You need to purchase a horse that will not throw the inexperienced rider off of his or her back but you should also find a horse to accommodate the biggest rider.

Next you should ask yourself how old of a horse you would like. If you want one that is already "house broken" per say, then you will want to choose a horse that is a bit older. An older horse will be used to eating grass free in a large pasture so you should make sure you have that for him. If you do not have good riding skills and a small stable then you should not chose an older horse.
